DESIGN JAMS

I am a keen participant in game design jams, having entered whenever time permitted over the last 3 years.

 

As a designer, these jams have provided significant opportunity to hone many relevant skills. Because I have only entered the solo 48 hour game jams, this has required me to take on all aspects of developing the game myself. From conceptualisation and prototyping to animation and audio design, all aspects of the design process must be undertaken by myself within the 48 hour time frame.

For those unfamiliar with the concept of design jams, at the beginning of the 48 hours a theme is released, the participants must design a game that in some way relates to this theme, e.g. Two Buttons, Shapeshifting, One Room. This removes the possibility of pre-preparing parts of the design. Many of the designers take timelapse photography of themselves during the 48 hours as proof of their design process.
